The first time it was possible to watch images in motion, was in 1878 shortly after the invention of the telephone. These days television, even with the invention of internet, is still beloved by almost every human being in the world. Around 4 billion people around the world watch television and the average American spends five hours a day in front of the telly. Still, even today, television keeps on developing to make your viewings more powerful, realistic, and more fulfilling overall.
As the web still has a lack of this great cohesive package that television offers, and television does not have the range that the web does, why not put these two together? Who could come up with this faster and do this better than Google? Yes, that’s right Google recently revealed that they will combine television with the likes of YouTube and every other possibility on the web and it will be on sale within a few months. This will make it possible to experience the web like never before and it makes watching television more comfortable without the need to walk to your computer and look something up on the web if you have the inclination to do so.
Many people wear “the world” in their pockets every day with the internet on their phones, so yes, why not in the living room as well?
Google TV will include a Google Chrome browser to allow easy web browsing from the television. A Google website news blog said:
“What if we helped people experience the best of TV and the best of the web in one seamless experience? Imagine turning on the TV and getting all the channels and shows you normally watch and all of the websites you browse all day — including your favourite video, music and photo sites. We’re excited to announce that we’ve done just that.
“Google TV is a new experience for television that combines the TV that you already know with the freedom and power of the Internet. With Google Chrome built in, you can access all of your favourite websites and easily move between television and the web. This opens up your TV from a few hundred channels to millions of channels of entertainment across TV and the web. Your television is also no longer confined to showing just video. With the entire Internet in your living room, your TV becomes more than a TV — it can be a photo slideshow viewer, a gaming console, a music player and much more.
“We’ve already started building strategic alliances with a number of companies — like Jinni.com. Jinni.com is a next-generation TV application working to provide semantic search, personalised recommendation and social features for Google TV across all sources of premium content available to the user.”
I personally think it’s a great and obvious idea and in a few years we won’t have “normal” television any more, the same as it’s happening with mobile telephones and internet connection. I mean, we used to use even more energy sleeping than watching television, guess that’s changing now with all this new worldwide information in our living room with at the same time watching our relaxing television show.
We all are familiar with the endless arguing and fighting for the remote because everybody wants to watch another show…can you picture this if there’s even internet on it as well?! And I guess getting into another world and escaping from reality is not happening in our living room any more with this new development. Probably Google TV will be extra beneficial for cinemas, as that will be the only way to really escape the web madness and go sit safe in your comfort zone, using no energy, relaxing, while jumping into another world, thinking of absolutely nothing…the perfect escape.
