The iPad2: Should We Buy It?

ipad2

On the 25th of March 2011, the iPad2 was released in Australia. Everywhere around the country, people were lining up in front of Apple stores. The original iPad was just only launched a year ago, but Apple already has a brand spanking new, improved version. So what makes the iPad2 so different from its predecessor?

First of all, we have the size and the weight. As you would expect the iPad2 is a little bit smaller and lighter. The iPad2 is around 4 to 6 inches smaller than his older brother. It is also around 0.10 kg lighter. Another plus of the iPad2 is that it can store a lot more data. It has a Dual-core A5 chip, instead of an A4. So if you open up more tabs, the iPad2 does not have to reload every tab if you open it again. You can also scroll down and still see the whole page.

The battery of the two iPad’s are the same. It is a 25-watt-hour rechargeable lithium-polymer battery. It will last up to 10 hours of surfing the web on Wi-Fi, watching video or listening music and up to 9 hours of surfing the web using 3G data network. The iPad2 has a camera on the front and rear.

The iPad2 has a few valid improvements. However, not everybody is convinced. People are claiming that the improvements are not a huge difference. Additionally, rumour has it that Apple is going to launch the iPad 4G before March 2012. This main suspected cause for this is that in September, kids go back to school in the States.

So why buy an iPad2 now, if a better one is on his way? Emily Price, Senior Editor at Techno Buffalo can give you the answer: “truth be told, if they just wrote a giant 2 on the back of it in sharpie I would probably do the same thing – I’ve been suffering from iPad-envy for way too long.

We feel you Emily, we have the same addiction.
